How to remove the protective film from acrylic sheet?

Acrylic is sometimes called PMMA plastic or plexiglass because it is lightweight and shatter-resistant, so it is a popular substitute for glass in much of daily life. We often use acrylic products in our daily lives, Whether it is small acrylic ornaments or large decoration materials. there is usually a layer of protective paper or protective film on the acrylic board, and there is a layer on both sides, so acrylic surfaces are prevented from scratching during transport.

So before we use it, we need to remove this protective film without damaging the acrylic. Ordinary hand tearing is generally difficult to tear off perfectly, so what should we do?

Through Common Daily Necessities

If you don’t have any professional chemicals by your side, that’s okay; we will use these daily necessities to solve the problem.

1. Unarmed

It is not impossible to tear off the acrylic film with bare hands. Of course, your acrylic sheet should not be too big. You can put the acrylic sheet on a flat table and then carefully peel off the cover of one of the corners with your nails, being careful not to scratch the acrylic.

2. Warm water

Soak in warm water for about 30 minutes, it can be easily torn off and even fall off automatically. Note that it must be warm water, too high-temperature water will damage the acrylic.

3. Adhesive tape

Tear off one piece of the tape and stick it on the corner of the acrylic board, and then lift the tape up so that the tape drives the acrylic film to be torn off smoothly.

4. Tweezers

This is easy to understand. Find an upturned corner and pinch it to drive the film to tear off.

5. Paper cylinder

If you feel that hand tearing cannot drive you to tear off the film evenly and beautifully, we can also use some props, such as paper cylinders, which are generally used to pack posters, etc. You can even use toilet paper rolls. Sometimes, you still need to start from a corner, it can help you to tear off the entire film smoothly and perfectly. Of course, you can change the paper cylinder to an acrylic cylinder.

6. Hair dryer

For the sticker on acrylic products, you can heat the sticker with the heat setting of a hairdryer and then slowly tear it off.

7. Eraser

For some traces of residual adhesive on the surface, you can wipe it again with an eraser, but then remember to also clear away the eraser crumbs.

Through Chemicals

Of course, if you can have some advanced props. No matter how advanced they are, they must still be something you can find in your life.

1. Hand cream

Hand cream can also achieve the effect of removing stickers because hand cream contains a lot of water, and the water contains a certain amount of surfactant. This surfactant has good wetting, penetrating, and dissolving abilities, and can quickly penetrate between the sticker and the surface of the object, so as to achieve the purpose of removal. Some similar products, such as face creams, facial cleansers, and detergents also have certain effects.

2. Nail polish remover or alcohol

Sometimes we also need to deal with the adhesive marks on the acrylic surface, so after we tear off the adhesive layer, we can apply a non-greasy nail polish remover to the surface of the object, and then gently wipe it with a soft cloth. You can also use industrial alcohol or gasoline to clear these traces.

3. Cooling oil

Cooling oil is also effective in removing the adhesive marks that are still firmly adhered to the board. Apply cooling oil to the marks of the adhesive and then wipe it with a clean cotton cloth. The adhesive will come off easily.

Conclusion

Whether it is a film or a paper film, it is adhered to the acrylic by a certain means to play a protective role, so no matter which removal method is used, please be careful not to damage the acrylic.

If you find that your acrylic cover is difficult to remove, it is usually because the adhesive has dried. If you buy a large amount of acrylic material but do not store it properly, then this is most likely to happen. Therefore, it is very important to store acrylic sheet in a cool place and try to use them within two years.

Even if difficult adhesion occurs, there is no need to give up acrylic. The methods we provide are enough for you to solve the problem.
